They were never trying to erase the past. Some bitter memories can never truly disappear. All they could do was sever the emotional ties that kept those memories alive. Some were consumed by fire. Some drifted away and sank into the sea. The rest were carried beyond reach by the wind. Each carried away a fragment of the past, until what remained was no longer pain, but the space to finally move forward.
