Specimen: HYBRID animal, half blue whale, half sea otter (Balaenoptera musculus - Enhydra lutris)
Conservation status: The blue whale, the giant of the seas, faces serious threats from global warming, marine pollution, and illegal fishing, while the sea otter, the world's smallest marine mammal, has endured centuries of intense fur hunting.
Its history: the genesis of BALAENO-LUTRIS© came after an extraordinary dive in the Pacific Ocean, where I witnessed the birth of a whale calf.
Its message: The blue whale sequesters carbon in the ocean. The sea otter captures carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the form of biomass and deep-sea detritus.
Its mission: to bring hope and raise awareness of the need for these species to exist.
