Why is there a chapel floating on the lake?

In order to understand this, you have to know that there was a village with a church in this place more than 40 years ago.
At that time, all the inhabitants of the village had to be resettled because they lived on a large lignite deposit. Excavators came and dug a huge hole where the village was to mine lignite. After there was nothing left to mine, the hole was flooded and a large lake was created.

The floating chapel symbolizes the lost church and is a memorial for the places that had to give way to the opencast lignite mine.
