Description

Grizu 263 draws digital topography: excavated terrains, rails, roads, traces of construction sites… The images sometimes become a bird’s-eye map, sometimes harden like a strict orthogonal section. At times both appear together; terrain and data intertwine, and the boundaries between landscape and algorithm slowly disappear. The digital world is not independent from the underground. Data centers, networks, artificial intelligence systems… all demand more energy. And this demand sustains an invisible mining: the earth is excavated, energy is extracted, and labor remains deep underground. It was a mining city. Explosions, collapses, losses… the language of the geography was shaped by these. The underground did not only produce coal; it created a state of mind: heavy, gray, melancholic, stubborn. The city is in harmony with the pulse of the underground. Workers, machines, and algorithms work together; every explosion and every flow of data seems like a corresponding fragment. Yet this harmony sometimes turns into an uneasy silence. The voids left after a collapse, unused rails, abandoned machines… these are not only physical emptinesses; they are also the silencing of layers of data and memory.

For those who died in the darkness for the sake of the light…
