Today 23.02.23 I decide to exercise a tribute to the Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto on the date of his birth and his architectural photography and to my participation in NFT PARIS with my previous works.
The following GIF was made by training my own AI models with Sugimoto's Architecture Portfolio and his 1998 Eiffel Tower photograph.
" I discovered that superlative architecture survives the onslaught of blurred photography. Thus I began erosion-testing architecture for durability, completely melting away many of the buildings in the process., " Hiroshi Sugimoto.
25 years later, superlative architecture continues to resist despite the vertiginousness of the means of production, exhibition of digital images in an unprecedented time of creation and consumption of images.
The AI determines and searches for an archetype of "The Tower", but what is it and where does the initial image reside, "the superlative architecture", the latent image that underlies and is missing and that no latent space can return?
