New York-based GenX artist GAWD (b. 1977, United States) grew up influenced by the work of Haring, Warhol, Kruger and the politics of punk/hardcore music. With roots creating graffiti in the late 1990s followed by the Lowbrow Art movement - published in 2012 alongside other Pop Surrealist digital artists - GAWD adopted the pseudonym in 2014 creating evocative work that brings the street to the studio (and now the blockchain) through paint, typography, pop imagery, and punk sensibility. In 2023, GAWD became the first artist in the world to begin releasing new work simultaneously across platforms as multi-chain timed editions (Objkt/Tezos, Foundation/Ethereum, and Exchange/Solana), allowing collectors to acquire new work on the blockchain of their choice. GAWD's repurposing of highbrow fashion, luxury, and images of power colliding with snarky lowbrow typography fuels bold, brash social commentary with a nihilistic bent. Each work challenges us to question ourselves, the world around us, and our place in it.
