3D Animation 23 seconds 4K 3840 x 2160 2022

The 3D form featured in “Home is the edge of the world” takes inspiration from popular idioms such as feet of clay; these boots were made for walking, and there’s no place like home. This flythrough-style animation has a labyrinthine camera path looping inside and outside of this obsessively textured sculpture depicting a foot/shoe hybrid. This non-linear camera path gives the viewer time to explore the angles and crevices while the gravity-free distance from reality highlights the sculpture's combination of weirdness, camp, and realism.

“Home is the edge of the world” is part of a larger series of digital and physical sculptures that include motifs of abstracted and remixed ancient symbols, archaic smiles, augmented Greco-Roman heads, and detailed rocky textures. This eclectic imagery — influenced by my extensive online archive—references themes from occultism, antiquated medical practices, neuroscience, and psychology. These downloaded archives are organized into visual maps and are used as stylistic prompts for an assemblage-like approach to digital sculpting. Extrapolating from this range of ancient and contemporary sources, I build bizarre fictitious talismans that recontextualize and reanimate archetypes. My sculptures exist both physically as 3D prints, and as digital sculptures in virtual reality, augmented reality, and animations.
