Description

Here we immortalize the love of Felix Gonzalez-Torres and his partner, Ross, on the blockchain.

This specific piece of candy has been collected from the work “Untitled” (Portrait of Ross in L.A.) installed at The Art Institute of Chicago, IL. 2005. (Permanent Collection)

The pile is a representation of Ross, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1991. This generous work is comprised of 175 pounds of candy, which corresponds to Ross’s ideal body weight. We are encouraged to take a piece of the candy, and the diminishing amount parallels Ross’s weight loss and suffering prior to his death.

Gonzalez-Torres stipulated that the pile should be continuously replenished, thus metaphorically granting perpetual life.
