Description

Size: 1280 × 720, 5.7MB Year: 2014 Dérive, Forest Lawn [Lullabyland] is a moment pulled from The Cemetery Tapes, a collection of analog and glitch videos created by the artist between 2012 and 2016. Utilizing a bespoke analog system (including a vintage character generator) Parsons mixed video recordings, stills, and sketches documenting her movements through various Los Angeles cemeteries. Forest Lawn was a prominent subject of exploration due to its unique past and fantastical theme park approach to death. The evocative names of its burial sections are but one feature of the intensely designed space, which “founder” Hubert Eaton hoped would be “as unlike other cemeteries as sunshine is unlike darkness.” Lullabyland was a section reserved for infants and small children. The inscription on the main monument reads: "Dedicated to the earthly home of faith, hope and love - a mother's heart.”
