In June of 2020, this incredible supercell formed near Lusk, Wyoming and would travel into northwestern Nebraska leading us on an intensely beautiful voyage over some of the most pristine high plains fields. As I set up to watch this storm grow in strength and size, I captured this "positively charged bolt" blast through the bottom of the cloud base and strike the ground. Several brush fires were observed being caused by lightning strikes, and fire crews raced to put them out. The moment I stood here, watching in awe, was beyond extraordinary. It was surreal, almost like I was in a dream state. Being this close to the ferocious aspect of nature that also brings life giving rains is something I live and breathe for now.
