Description

This work is the first part of a set of works designed to be displayed side by side; the stillness and the movement with space in-between.

The second part, the complimentary video work - Home ( Part 2 ) will be sent to the purchaser of this work 'Home (Part 1)' to complete the set at the time of purchase.

Beyond the primary purchase it is up to the collector if they chose to keep the works together or to seperate them.

About the work: Where I grew up the beach was shrouded with the clothes of the dead, swaying along its shoreline like seaweed.
Intertwined in the ocean itself, slowly falling away to rags and sand.

So often in human history souls have been let go into the elements.

Sent out into water, burned in fire, buried in earth or left to be consumed by air.
In times of great meaning we reach for natures transformative elements for meaning and ritual.

The video component of this work is about the people that have captured these moments, on old camcorders, on reels of film, on disposable cameras and shaky old phones.
Because it was never about how the moment was captured, rather it was deeply personal, the preservations of our lives on film, fleeting, disappearing, authentic and only intended to be seen by the few.

Made on Dalabon country, Weemol, Bulman in the Northern Territory, Australia. I pay my respects to the Elders past present and emerging.

Many Thanks for my sister in law Celina Ernst for helping me create these works.
