Where do the places we once loved go when life moves us forward?
Maybe they do not leave us at all. Maybe they shrink into quiet little worlds inside our minds, waiting behind closed eyes, old streets, soft rooftops, familiar trees, birds we used to watch from windows, and rooms that still remember our laughter. As time passes, we learn to look grown, calm, and composed from the outside, but somewhere within us, whole places continue to breathe.
There is always an elsewhere we carry. A home that no map can find. A season that never fully ended. A version of ourselves still walking through sunlight we thought we had forgotten. And sometimes, without warning, a sound, a color, a smell, or a passing bird opens the door again, and we are back there for a moment.
Not gone. Not lost. Just living quietly inside us.
