DoppelRAUSCH is a playful exploration of the generative capacities of certain media by combining the digital generative series RAUSCH, published on fx(hash), with the analog unique qualities of Riso printing.

The digital variation of the series RAUSCH was created with careful consideration of the limitations of the Riso printing process, including limited palettes of available colors and the resulting monochromatic and polychromatic pixelation. Riso printing is a hybrid process that can result in slight analog variations in duplicated copies, providing a unique quality to each print, just like a generative artwork.

Risograph(Riso) printing is a printing method that combines elements of screenprinting and photocopying. The process involves using a Risograph machine, a digital duplicator. It creates a master stencil by burning a monochrome design onto a sheet of rice paper, also known as the master. This master is then wrapped around a drum filled with ink. As the drum rotates, the ink is pressed through the master's cut-out areas and onto the paper beneath, creating the desired image. The hybrid nature of this process leads to slight variations, adding uniqueness to each piece in the series, adding some tangible analogue RAUSCH to the digital RAUSCH, the DoppelRAUSCH.

A series of curated outputs of the Rausch algorithm were printed as editions using this Riso printing technique. Each generative RAUSCH output produced a looping sequence of 8 frames, creating a digital animation. These 8 images were positioned on an A3 sheet and printed on a Riso digital duplicator, digitized, and digitally reassembled to create the DoppelRAUSCH animation sequence.
