I remember holding my breath and sitting on the bottom of the public pool where I spent most summers. Every so often I would hear a sound like breaking glass played by a transistor radio and turn see the form of a diver plunging into the deep end.
Consider the form of a diver seconds after they hit water. I am struck the grace of a freefall, the shock of transition from air to water, and the shedding of bits the old world carried with the skin.
Formally this piece is also my attempt to blend a kind of lyrical figurativism with the technical and aesthetic demands of long-form token based generative art. In this piece, a randomized subset of digitally sculpted forms are loaded, spatially transformed via heuristics and RNG, and then translated into simple animated particle systems.
This process of transformation occurs a variable number of times, so each piece could contain the base form of anywhere between 1 and 10 divers.
