The mini collection Dewdrop Currents by DV Ghost and Yuran Yakon combines various glitch and image manipulation techniques to present a vision oscillating between mechanical and natural movements.
The collaboration between the two artists was based on an iterative pingpong like process focused on the free and open development of a GIF, with neither artist knowing what the result would be. Progress is made through the file, with the task being to add qualities without erasing too much of what has been done before. The released versions underwent this process up to eight times.
This collection emerged from a truly collaborative process. From the raw footage to the final GIF file, both artists worked across different aspects of each piece at every stage, responding to one another's interventions and taking new risks with every iteration.
With their blurry appearance, the three GIFs play on the aesthetics of low resolution. The central, stream-like dynamic refers to a natural river and is interrupted by more mechanical moments of looping movement. The qualities of digital and analogue glitch resulted in a final product with a fog-like softness merged with a texture native to the digital realm.
