Description

Postcard Dataset is a series of small works that extend the larger Dataset system into an intimate scale. Each piece begins with four vintage postcards, fragments of lived history, printed artifacts passed through countless hands, cut into uniform strips and reorganized through Erin's strict rule-based method. Nothing is removed, nothing is hidden: every square of paper remains present, only reordered. The process transforms familiar architectural scenes into rhythmic grids where buildings fracture, dissolve, and reform themselves through repetition and interference.

What once functioned as straightforward documentation, postcards as evidence of place, time, and progress, becomes unstable. Towers warp, perspectives collapse, horizons slip out of alignment. The ordered promise of the postcard is restructured into a field of shifting memory, echoing the way history is continually rewritten with each retelling.

Rooted in physical collage but evolving from the logic that drives the larger Dataset works, these pieces treat sequencing as an engine for meaning. They resist the speed of automation, insisting on the human time of cutting, placing, committing without undo. In their scale and materiality, the Postcard Dataset works hold the intimacy of something once mailed from one person to another, now asking what remains when images are reorganized and recreated, when memory becomes data and the story of a place is rebuilt from fragments.
