The singularity, or technological singularity, is a hypothetical future point in time when artificial intelligence (AI) becomes capable of recursively improving itself, creating an intelligence explosion that radically changes human civilisation. It is called a singularity because it represents a point beyond which it is difficult or impossible to predict the future course of events.

It is often associated with the idea of super-intelligence, a hypothetical AI that is vastly more intelligent than any human being and capable of solving problems that are currently beyond our comprehension. Some researchers and thinkers have raised concerns about the potential risks associated with the singularity, such as the possibility that a super-intelligent AI could pose an existential threat to humanity.
