Description
According to the Lewis theory, a covalent bond is the result of the sharing of a pair of electrons (=two electrons) between two atoms. Accordingly, the shared electrons are attracted by the nuclei of both atoms and, like glue, they lead to the two nuclei staying close together and the atoms to bond together. All gases, sugars, alcohols, polymers, fuels and water are covalently bonded. The covalent bond has a very strong attraction that holds the atoms tightly together, that's why they are known as molecular bonds.
