Description

Edition 1|1 - JPEG 4000 × 4280 px This illustration is a study for The Game, a comic project set in the world of Legend Football League (LFL) - a rough, all-female American football league that emerged in the 2010s. In the mid-2010s, unsatisfied with my drawing level, I started sketching relentlessly, often from video and without pencil roughs, to keep spontaneity - sumo, LFL, and pieces like this one, "All In." It later led to the creation of Crystal, the heroine of Last Man Stories: Soir de match (Casterman, 2018), which won the Daruma for Best International Manga at Japan Expo 2019. Sports have always been central to me - 15 years of taekwondo, including as a sparring partner for the French national team at INSEP during the 2004 Olympic preparation. Call it a punching bag for champions. That's likely where my love for underdogs, outcasts, and "born to lose" fighters comes from. I'm glad, once again thanks to Achetez de l'Art, to see this drawing shared at the gallery and here on OpenSea. It brings back a lot of memories!
