In this city, division is built into the landscape.

Created during the 2025 Rio Art Residency, the work is loosley based on a photograph of Paraisópolis in São Paulo, Brazil.

Bright towers with cascading balconies rise above the neighborhood like massive spiral staircases, surrounded by a canopy of green.

At ground level, an abstraction of the movement between homes in the city’s largest favela. From above, these worlds appear entirely separate.

Each hand-drawn dot and line traces a life moving through the neighborhood. The work leaves room to wonder where these lives overlap and what stories pass between them.
