The unusual atmosphere of the building complex features guesthouses, curry restaurants, African bistros, clothing shops, sari stores, and foreign exchange offices. It acts as a large gathering place for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, particularly South Asians, Middle Eastern people and Nigerians.
It is a warm and frightening place that fascinates travellers and an emblematic place of the Hong Kong cinema scene of the 90s. The film Chungking Express by π ¦π π π π π π ‘ π ¦π π released in 1994 takes place in the building and tells the stories of two lovesick Hong Kong policeman mulling over their relationship with women.
This series, thought as a tribute to the mystical atmosphere born from the artistic spirit of Wong Kar Wai, brings together a series of glitched drawings of the the dreamy characters of the movie.
