About the image: Through exploring the urban nooks and crannies of Chicago, I developed an affinity for framing my images in interesting ways. One cold afternoon in the city, I was climbing up a deserted car parking lot just outside of downtown in search of that “money shot” skyline of Chicago. I found it, and took the shot, but something felt incomplete. That’s when I saw a barbed wire hanging off one of the parking lot walls and decided to capture the skyline through it. To me, this image represents the taunting duality of this (and so many other) large urban centers of our world. The opportunities in the cities seem to be endless, but they are often just outside of reach for many of its citizens.
