Description

Carbon Bloom is an intentional fire, caught hand-held on camera, witnessed and diminished only through the screen. Contemplating the beauty of the disaster I am causing. Dandelions are one of the most fascinating and potentially beneficial plants but considered a weed because of how successfully invasive they can be; a trait that could also characterize humans. The seeds can cover large distances when dispersed by wind via the unique fibrous parachute (pappus). This pappus can adjust its morphology depending on the moisture in the air. This allows the plume of seeds to close up and reduce the chance to separate from the stem, waiting for optimal conditions that will maximize dispersal and germination. 30 million years of evolution incinerated with a .99 cent BIC. It is a Western tradition to blow out a dandelion seedhead and think of a wish to come true. What should we be wishing for? | Video 950 x 1690 pixels | Ryan Thompson, June 2021 | www.ryanthompson.name
