this is a series concerned with precision and perception, both biologically and technically. the process involves 3d capture of a living plant, an incredibly lossy process where environmental conditions affect the details recorded. the digital artefact contains sufficient remnants to relate to the subject and at the same time isn’t a complete and perfect facsimile.
this friction between precision and imprecision is best understood in the hermetic environment of a 3d modelling scene. the digital artefact contains too much information to be practically manipulated, but is incomplete. this is resolved through the perception of deep neural network demonising algorithms which attempt to generate data where there is none.
the subject is echium, a bush endemic to the Canary Islands and captured at the Botanical Garden of Barcelona on June 24, 2021, in the middle of its blooming period.
