When I’m going through moments of doubt and uncertainty, I need to refocus. It’s by going back to the grid that I find the peace I’m looking for. The series “Back to the Grid” is about this need to return to the essential.
The grid is the main subject of this series. Usually hidden in the background, the grid is the underlying structure on which all my creations are built. This omnipresent but invisible element is brought to the forefront in this work.
“Back to the Grid” is a set of combinations. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12 columns are combined with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 rows. The completion of these combinations creates a series of 30 drawings.
Each drawing in this series is a search for a minimal expression. Straight white lines are drawn on a black background. There is nothing superficial: nothing to add or remove.
This image is number 18 of 30 in the “Back to the Grid” series, it’s composed of 4 columns and 4 rows. It’s a PNG file of size 3600 × 4400 px. It was generated with a Python script I designed. This script was created in my studio in Lyon (France) in 2023.
