The artwork is based on the historical injustice that occurred in 1948. The key symbolizes the long-standing and deeply rooted, unwavering hope of the Palestinian people and their descendants to return to their homes, to the lands they were forced out of. For the last 75 years, many Palestinians have kept the keys to the homes they were forced to leave in exile in 1948, in anticipation of their return (Key of Return). This key represents the right of return and resistance against the occupation.
