Description
Personal Computer is an animated loop created from six separate weavings. The images were designed in Deluxe Paint IV (1991) for Commodore Amiga, and use a color cycling technique to create the perpetual wave pattern on the laptop’s screen. The images were woven by Kristen on a computer assisted hand-loom or Jacquard loom, and shot individually for the animation. The work speaks about obsolescence, and the relationship between computers and weaving. Jacquard Looms being the first personal computers in a sense, which were automated using punched cards. Kristen’s research into this history postulates that the data stored on punched cards for weavings in the 1800’s could also be viewed as the first digital images.
