Mixed media illustration featuring a gorilla and a Toucan

Created in 2015 and exhibited at UTFPR Veg, an exhibit at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (Federal Technological University of Paraná, in Curitiba, Brazil) featuring art inspired by animals and their rights, in October 8th 2015.

Many animals who previously lived at the wild are experiencing loss of habitat, hunt and persecution by human activity which has some of them sent into trafficking & trade, a practice that survives through both legal and illegal means in several countries. The expansion of rural & urban areas, as well of the monoculture and livestock businesses also threaten these animals and have lasting consequences not only for those killed (like predators, who often enter into a "property" searching for food and are killed by local gunmen), but for their next generations. Some wild animals who lost their parents on such occasions, even if still put into conservation centers, are prevented from getting back to wild, where they'd likely die starving or victim of other predators given their difficulties, before being "rehabilitated" and taken care of. And even then, life in the diminishing wild areas would remain difficult for those who already lost their parents.

Other than that, there are still several zoos around the world which main profit comes from entertainment, forcing these animals into the role of attractions for tourists. On these cases, these animals suffer stress and poor life quality. This illustration shows the difference between animals in captivity and on the wild, that despite inevitably full of dangers and hazards is open to much more possibilities. Several people worldwide try to fight wild animal trafficking, while it still persist because of economical interests. But sentient animals aren't toys or objects for human entertainment, they can feel pain and stress, and have their own needs. Consider going vegan. Animals shouldn't be traded.
