Anima/Animus.

Carl Gustav Jung used these words to characterize femininity and masculinity, experiences passed down through generations. These are images of man and woman, fixed in the "common" historical consciousness.

Anima and Animus are "interpenetrating concepts": in every man there are traits of the anima, and in every woman - traits of the animus. Often the task of a person is to balance the expressions of both characters inside him/her/themselves.
