The landscapes of the Correze changed after my mother died. Rivers, houses and familiar roads ceased to be neutral places; they became repositories of time.

Water is particularly bound to memory for me because it refuses permanence while carrying traces forward. What the River Keeps is about that paradox: nothing remains fixed, yet nothing entirely disappears. Family history survives less like an archive than like a current, continually displaced and re-formed.
