When Jackson Pollock met Michael Faraday, a new form of abstract art was created.

eddy currents arise when a conductor is placed in a changing magnetic field. These currents typically form closed loops, and themselves generate a magnetic field which tends to oppose the one that created it.

The metal cores of electrical transformers are often laminated to form thin bounded regions which minimize the eddy currents by constricting them to a small space.

The abstract art embodied in this piece depicts the eddy currents in such laminated structures.
