Description

randoms is a series that explores the contemporary condition of the image: how it is made, how it circulates, and how it is seen. Combining Google Street View captures from London, India, Japan, and Brazil with photographs taken during Cydr’s own travels, the works focus on incidental scenes of transit, routine, and overlooked spaces - factory floors, shorelines, and urban edges.

Rendered in deliberately degraded resolution and covered in a uniform grain that evokes CCTV, dashcams, and automated capture systems, these images blur the distinction between authorless machine vision and personal memory. Within this unstable visual field, Cydr introduces subtle fabricated elements, such as figures, animals, and objects, further unsettling the viewer’s sense of what is recorded, witnessed, or constructed.

In randoms, photography is no longer tied to the decisive moment or to clear authorship at the point of capture. Instead, meaning emerges afterward, through selection, manipulation, and reframing. The series reflects a world in which images are endlessly produced and accumulated, and shows how an image of nothing in particular can become an image of significance.
