Haleakala (Hah-le-ah-kah-lah) is a dormant volcano located on the island of Maui in the Hawai'ian Islands. On the north flank of the volcano rests several cinder cones, formed from pyroclastic material piling up after getting ejected from vents. Haleakala is over 10,000 ft tall and it significantly affects local weather patterns, resulting in Maui having 10 of the world's 14 climate zones.
