Jack-o'-Lantern and the Legend of Jack: The legend of Jack-o'-Lantern relates to a trickster named Jack who deceived the devil. After his death, due to his sins, he found no place in Heaven or Hell. The devil gave him a burning ember, which Jack placed inside a carved-out turnip (later replaced by the pumpkin) to light his way through the darkness.
