Original Threads is an exploration of the winding of digital thread. Originally developed as an experiment of recreating rolls of thread in p5js, this collaboration of efforts combines se.nao.neste's core algorithmic work with Liam's drive to push as much coherent variety into a generator as possible.

At its core, this work wraps threads around a central point, subscribing to various rules as it does so. The movement of the thread is determined by the angular momentum combined with a "wander" factor.

One of the most exciting parts of the development of this algorithm was discovering and exploiting the various idiosyncracies (the peculiarities) of the drawing algorithm - the broken lines when the stroke is above a certain weight, the "burning" of the heavily layered shadows etc. - these "mistakes" we've loved and cherished and became an intrinsic part of the artistic expression of the piece.
