Glitch as iterative process. Inspired by Rosa Menkman's A Vernacular of File Formats, I started databending source images in various formats, taking the first pass and converting to other formats. Each format breaks in its own particular way. Changing the compression settings and file format settings can produce an array of artifacts. Each artifact can then become part of an iterative, branching process, where files branch as they mutate. 008 of 366 was the start of such a process in Year of the Glitch.

GIF files break in a particularly interesting way, shifting pixels left and right different amounts each row. By rotating and repeating the process an image can be fractured and warped. Some of the alternate takes explore an additional mid-step of converting the file to .sga and back to gif to introduce colors not present in the original.
