Zak Tustont: About

Bio

Zak Tustont uses art to navigate life experience, working across vector illustration, collage, and generative media. His video work layers, distorts, and breaks down material until it sits between clarity and abstraction. His practice is guided by a fascination with how systems can be stretched, unraveled, and reshaped.

Tustont was born in Canada and spent his adolescence in the United States before returning to Canada in 2012. He entered the NFT space in February 2021 through a collaboration with the artist Jeremy Torman, providing sound design for one of Torman's AI-generated works. Tustont minted his own first NFT, French x Inhale (w/ Audio), on Foundation in March 2021 after being invited to the platform by the artist Mo Tuncay. Through 2021 he studied machine learning, training custom StyleGAN models from his archive of vector art. In 2022 he returned to vector illustration through his Meta-Garbage project.

In November 2023 he released LowProfile(s), an experimental series of animated portraits made using custom StyleGAN models. Tustont was named a finalist in the second edition of the Claire AI Contest. He contributed to the Mythologicals project on makeitrad as one of its guest artists. Tustont was credited among the co-curators of the exhibition “From Thought to Form” by Flannel Collective in 2023. His work On the 69th Day… was minted as part of The Memes by 6529 on January 8, 2025, in an edition of 310. He collaborated with the artist m0dest on worth more dead, released through Transient Labs as an edition of 69. Tustont created the cover art for the song Are You Not Entertained by Rare Scrilla, released in December 2024.
