Yi-Wen Lin is a creative coder and generative artist from Taiwan, based in London. His practice folds motifs from Chinese culture and childhood memory into generative algorithms that simulate natural phenomena such as rain and light. He has released fixed-edition generative collections including Maze, Hex and Rippling.
Lin's work draws on years spent living in Western countries while remaining attached to the culture of his native Taiwan, a mix he describes as a cross-pollination of cultures. His early fxhash releases, Maze and Hex, were each limited to 128 pieces. Both collections were praised for their palettes and textures, with Hex singled out for its texture effects. Lin's video piece DataFacePrint, built with WebGL and face detection to make viewers reflect on their own internet footprint, was shown in the 2019 exhibition “AI: More than Human” at the Barbican Centre in London.
