XCOPY is a London-based pseudonymous digital artist who works in an aesthetic of digital decay: glitched loops and neon figures that explore mortality, alienation, and the absurdity of value in the networked age. Among the first to release blockchain-based work in 2018, XCOPY operates between technology and satire, with a practice that both critiques and embodies crypto culture.
XCOPY's practice has been credited with helping shape the conceptual and economic frameworks of the NFT movement, including the principle of on-chain artist royalties. The piece Right-click and Save As guy is built around the line “Why would I buy it when I can right click and save as?”. In 2022, XCOPY made both Right-click and Save As guy and the Grifters collection CC0, releasing them into the public domain.
