Von Doyle is a multidisciplinary artist who has made AI-assisted visual art since 2020, using neural networks, deep learning, and deep dream code written in Python and PyTorch. He uses these tools to enhance and over-process an image's patterns, producing the dream-like, psychedelic appearance of his pieces, drawn to how “scary and ugly computer dreams can be”.
Von Doyle often applies these techniques to reinterpret historical paintings through AI. In June 2021, he collaborated with the oil painter David Cheifetz on Thinker in the Forest of Digital Dreams, released on the platform Hic et Nunc, where both artists were early users. In 2022, he contributed to Poetics, a collection by Laurence Fueller in which 19 audio and visual artists collaborated on narrated pieces.
