Viktoria Modesta is a bionic pop artist and creative director whose multidisciplinary work bridges music, body art, sculptural tech-fashion, and performance with what she calls a “Sci-Fi in real life” sensibility.,Born in Daugavpils, Latvia, she relocated to London with her mother at age 12.,
Born with a leg injury from a difficult birth, Modesta underwent dozens of reconstructive surgeries as a child, and at 15 she decided on a below-knee amputation, a process that took five years to complete.,Working with the Alternative Limb Project, she helped design a series of prosthetics that she wore in Prototype, a 2014 Channel 4 film written and directed by Saam Farahmand that presented her as the world's first bionic pop artist and has been viewed more than ten million times.,,
In 2012 she performed as the Snow Queen, wearing a diamond-encrusted prosthetic, during the closing ceremony of the London Paralympics, and in 2015 she joined the MIT Media Lab as a director's fellow.,,In 2019 she art directed and starred as the Bionic Showgirl in a 31-show residency at the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris, and later released Human Machine, a film commissioned by Rolls-Royce Black Badge.,In 2021 she announced a new music project titled MOKSHA, to be released gradually across the year.
In 2016 her work was included in the group exhibition “The Human Option” at the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen, and she served as a jury member for the ASVOFF9 fashion film festival alongside wearable-technology researchers.,In 2022 she was featured among the contemporary NFT artists in Bright Moments' Curated Collection show at NFT Art Berlin.
