Udit Mahajan is a generative artist, experience designer, and educator based in the United States, originally from India, working across code-based art, interactive installation, and sound. His practice consists of generative technological experiments inspired by nature and perception, formulated as personal, collaborative, and large-scale experiential projects for companies, institutions, and labs.,
Mahajan worked as an electrical engineer before switching to art and design in 2013, moving to New York the next year to study design and technology,and graduating with an MFA from Parsons School of Design in 2016.He then worked as an experience designer at AV&C and taught at Parsons School of Design and the Learning Community Charter School.In December 2015, working with Tyler Henry, he made Destructure, an ephemeral sculpture of fifteen 3D-printed replicas of objects spanning prehistory to the present — among them an axe, an abacus, and an iPhone 5 — dissolved with acetone inside an acrylic vitrine at Brooklyn Bridge Park in Dumbo, reflecting both natural erosion and technological obsolescence.Between March and October 2016, working with Katherine Louise Mahajan, he made Emanations, a series of spatialized sound experiments that used physical gesture and movement, without wearable sensors, to let the human body control audio perspective.
In 2022 his generative works Nexus, Cuts, and Aerial were featured by Hyperallergic and CreativeApplications.Net.In 2023 he was a featured artist at the Responsive Dreams digital arts festival in Barcelona, presenting Prisma, described as “converging and cascading currents of transitory forms with a prismatic flavor”. He has described his generative responsive art as work that adapts both to the screen on which it is shown and to the presence of the person viewing it, blurring the boundary between the piece and its audience.In September 2024 he released Subaqua via fx(hash), an on-chain, code-based generative collection of 200 animated works split between the Tezos and Base blockchains.In January 2025 he released Time Traveler and Sprawling Stasis via fx(hash) on Base, each in an edition of 100.
