typo.eth is a British-Canadian artist based in Vancouver, BC, whose practice explores abstraction, interaction, minimalism and typography. His onchain art career began in 2022, when he won an award from Art On Internet judged by Brian Beccafico, a former NFT specialist at Sotheby's, prompting him to mint his first onchain artwork.
His work is released as fully onchain SVG artworks, stored as Base64 data URIs on Ethereum and minted through Manifold contracts he cryptographically signs. Contact Studies, subtitled Interstellar Threads, is a collection of typographic studies honouring the Arecibo Message, comprising five one-of-one works named for increasing distances in lightyears, from Contact Study #1: Ten Lightyears to Contact Study #5: Fifty Lightyears, each paired with a 50-edition companion piece. Glitch Studies, subtitled Pale Blue Nexus, explores abstraction, derivation and minimalism through pieces including Glitch Study #1: Don't Panic and Glitch Study #2: Pale Blue Death, released as both one-of-ones and limited editions.
Micrographic Studies is a collaboration with the artist Bayneko, who is known for self-captured photomicrographs processed with glitch techniques. Working from a selection of Bayneko's high-resolution photomicrographs, typo.eth composed a series of five works intended to challenge viewers' sense of perception and scale. Four of the resulting one-of-ones, minted on Ethereum, were offered for acquisition, while the fifth was retained in Bayneko's own collection.
