Trevor Jones is a Canadian-born painter based in Scotland whose practice combines classical painting techniques with augmented reality, animation and blockchain technology. He graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008 and began exploring augmented reality paintings in 2013, before turning to NFTs in 2019.
Jones became interested in cryptocurrency in 2017 and began a series of paintings depicting prominent figures in the technology, including Vitalik Buterin. His 2018 collection Crypto Disruption included The Ecstasy, the painting that would later become his NFT The Bitcoin Angel.In 2019, he released his genesis NFT EthGirl, a collaboration with artist Alotta Money who helped him get started in the NFT space.,The following year, his Crypto Cubism collection produced The Bitcoin Bull and EthBoy, both of which set NFT sale records at the time.EthBoy, made with Alotta Money, sold for over $141,500 on November 21, 2020, breaking the world record for a single NFT sale at that point.That year, Jones also won Best Art NFT at the inaugural NFT Awards for Picasso's Bull, which the Museum of Crypto Art acquired in 2020.,
In February 2021, Jones released The Bitcoin Angel as an open edition that sold 4,158 editions within a seven-minute window for more than $3.2 million. He also released The Bitcoin Angel's Share, an NFT paired with a cask of 1991 Macallan whisky that sold for $2.3 million, a record price for a whisky cask. That year, his MAN VS MACHINE collaboration with rapper Ice Cube paired four painted portraits with animated versions set to tracks Ice Cube produced for the project, raising $1.7 million. Beginning in 2022, Jones hosted the Castle Parties, community gatherings held first at Stirling Castle in Scotland and then at Château de Vallery in France, raising over $175,000 for the cancer charity Maggie's.
After Alotta Money died of cancer on March 4, 2022, Jones continued their EthBoy collaboration in his honor, planning it as a ten-chapter series released over five years.In 2022, he also established Art Angels, an initiative to promote emerging artists in the NFT scene.In 2024, Jones released the Archangels Collection and began CryptoAngels, a new collection launched on Bitcoin Ordinals.,
