tjo is a Canadian artistwho explores obsessive-compulsive disorder and mental health through performative gestures, collage, dance and video installation.Born in Chicoutimi and a member of the Mashteuiatsh community, he draws on Innu myths such as the wolverine figure Kuekuatsheu and the rock spirits Memekueshu to explore territory, healing and the imaginary.
He began taking photographs around age eleven with a camera borrowed from his father, and has said art functions as therapy, helping him process his experience of pure OCD.His work often features human archetypes rendered as red figures inside dark blue rooms, a recurring visual language for his psyche. His first self-portrait, BLeU, released under a CC0 license, drew wide engagement within the NFT art community.,He typically makes work physically first, often on archival paper, before scanning and retouching it for the screen. In a 2022 interview, he described moving toward larger physical pieces printed on high-quality paper. He entered the NFT space at the end of 2020, after a friend introduced him to crypto.
In 2023 his work was included in the “ArtCrush Gallery World Tour”, shown on outdoor digital billboards across ten cities on five continents. That year he was named to the NFT100 list.He was also included among the 137 artists featured in Kate Vass Galerie's book Collecting Art Onchain.
