Thierry Tillier (Belgian, b. 1957) is a collagist and mail artist who reworks found printed ephemera, from flyers and botanical atlases to maps and typed notes, collected through decades of postal correspondence with artists worldwide.,,,Based in Charleroi, Belgium, Tillier has exhibited since 1977 and remains a central figure in the region's mail art scene, corresponding through fanzines and small-press networks since the 1970s.,,
In 1977 Tillier contributed texts, graphic design and a cover illustration to esoteric small-press magazines such as La Gnose and Arcanes.The artist also took part in the Réseau 666 circle formed around Philippe Pissier, the first French translator of Aleister Crowley, which championed occultist practices well before their current revival.In the 1980s Tillier founded the fanzine Devil/Paradis as part of a small-press practice with a punk aesthetic.,
In 2020 the museum BPS22 in Charleroi acquired Tillier's mail art archive and exhibited it as “Merci Facteur! Mail Art #1 – Archives Thierry Tillier”, on view from September 2020 to January 2021.,Tillier has continued to correspond by mail through the Kart anthologies.Between 2002 and 2025 Tillier showed collage work at Galerie Jacques Cerami in Couillet, Belgium, including a 2021 exhibition of large-format collages built from an illustrated mole motif the artist had used with the gallery since 2006.,In 2026 material from Tillier's early fanzine work appeared in “Underground! La presse alternative des années 1970 en France” at the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris.,
Tillier's mail art practice has also extended onto the blockchain.In 2026 Tillier took part in The Latency Ledger, an animated catalogue documenting a twelve-node global mail-art relay among artists including Paul Prudence and Richard F. Yates, published by Semantic Drift with support from Art on Tezos and minted on Tezos.Tillier also took part in the December 2023 group exhibition “AVAXARTE” and showed work in a gallery in the virtual world Decentraland in September 2025.
