TGAM, short for The Generative Art Museum, is a non-profit organization based in Barcelona dedicated to promoting generative art and creative coding through exhibitions in a virtual museum. It was founded in 2020 by Xavier Hernández, who discovered creative coding while developing a web project and, during COVID-19 lockdowns, decided to build the museum's first venue in the metaverse.
TGAM bought a parcel of virtual land in Voxels, on Miami Island, and opened its first venue there, launching the exhibition “Issue #01: for the love of art” in December 2021 with work by Marcelo Soria-Rodríguez, Ismahelio, and Synesthesia. Since then it has staged a new Issue exhibition roughly every three months, showcasing three artists at a time in the virtual museum.For “Red Pill”, its third Issue exhibition, TGAM worked with the collective Tannhäuser Gate to build an indexer that pulled in newly minted pieces from each artist automatically every day, rather than showing a small, fixed selection.“She Codes”, TGAM's seventh Issue, focused on the contributions of women in creative coding and generative art.“Formulae”, the eighth Issue, examined the algorithms behind generative art with artists including Aleksandra Jovanic and shaderism.
Beyond the virtual museum, TGAM organizes physical events in Barcelona, including its own “Responsive Dreams” festival, and supports events such as “MAGBa” (Mostra d'Art Generatiu de Barcelona), an annual generative art exhibition held at the Palo Alto cultural complex in the Poble Nou district.,,,The museum is run by co-founders Xavier Hernández and Ruggero, who have hosted public conversations with the artists featured in its exhibitions.,,
