Tengil is a Swedish generative artist working under a pseudonym, whose algorithms translate concepts, emotions, memories and questions into naturally inspired abstraction. Based in Malmö in southern Sweden, he is a self-taught artist with a background in electrical engineering, business and marine ecology, and began making art in 2021 while working in tech.,
Tengil started making art during the pandemic as a way to process feeling disconnected from the people using the products of the tech company he worked for. He immersed himself in generative art in early 2021 and was introduced to CryptoPunks and Art Blocks by a friend who had been mining Ethereum. He generally titles his work in Swedish, saying it makes it easier to “get to the core of my intentions for the work”.
His first Art Blocks release, Nära (2023), explores the connections that make us human.Växt followed on Art Blocks Curated in January 2024 as a 300-work exponential Dutch auction, its Swedish title meaning “growth” or “plant”.,,The series captures the sensory experience of walking through a garden, blending micro and macro scales within a single canvas.,Straight lines and geometric forms representing human attempts to order nature are layered with organic, chaotic shapes drawn from leaves, roots, rain and sunlight.
Tengil's work has been shown at the Koami Art Festival in Gothenburg and at the gallery Vellum in Los Angeles, in a group exhibition alongside artists including Nadieh Bremer and Alexander Reben.,
