Tamas Antal (Hungarian, b. 1982) is a painter and digital artist based in Budapest who works across traditional painting, 3D and digital tools. Trained as a painter from 1989, he has spent more than two decades working across game development, advertising and television production while developing a practice that spans oil painting, digital painting and 3D art.
He studied painting at the University of Pécs's Faculty of Visual Arts from 2002 to 2009, after earlier training at Budapest's Nádasdy Kálmán Art School, the Secondary School of Visual Arts and the Dési Huber István Drawing School.Reviewing his first solo exhibition, his teacher András Lengyel wrote that “Tamás works primarily as a painter, but he is also interested in different graphic genres, digital imaging, conceptual photography, and has also come up with poetic texts and poems”. In recent years his practice has turned toward glitch aesthetics and pixel art, exploring digital fragmentation, perception and contemporary image culture.
His first solo exhibition, “Birdwatching Budapest”, opened at Budapest's Perpetual Gallery in 2010.In 2012 he presented “Bare Bone Shards” at Gogol 9 Gallery in Budapest, a show of 43 oil paintings depicting the city from unconventional viewpoints, later documented online as a 3D gallery.,He held a further solo exhibition, “Ad break”, in Budapest in 2023.
His NFT work has included Venus Reborn, a 2022 digital oil-on-canvas piece built from an AI-generated montage of Sandro Botticelli's The Birth of Venus, hand overpainted and rendered with 3D software, and released via ExchangeArt, a marketplace on the Solana blockchain.He also produced the Durer's Apocalypse Playing Cards, a card deck composed from details of Albrecht Dürer's public-domain woodcuts held by the National Gallery of Art, with each suit built as its own composition.In 2022 his work was included in Teia's NFT.NYC after-party among its top 100 artists, and in 2025 his piece Studio Vibe was again selected among the top 100 artists at NFT.NYC. At NFT Paris in 2025, his work was exhibited through the platforms Gamma.io and KodaDot at the Grande Halle de la Villette.
