Bio

Growing up I loved drawing and making things by hand. I also loved tongue-twisters and poetry and had an incessant curiosity for learning and discovering the world around me. ☆ Formally, I first studied printmaking and had a passion for Renaissance paintings, and still do. I loved the idea of constructed realities that encapsulate a concept or imaginary worlds. Later, while studying photography, I started using myself in my work after a self-portrait assignment. I found it freeing to express exactly what I wanted without asking for permission. I was also exposed to new media including video, sound, performance art as well as sculpture, and this began to also inform my work. I was attracted to creating works that were rooted in photography yet were multi-disciplinary in nature. I have utilized all of these tools throughout my art career. ☆ My main photographic equipment has been a 4x5 large-format film camera. Very recently I acquired my first digital camera system and it feels like a new beginning for me. I am interested in current technologies and incorporating new media into my work. ☆ Professionally, my art has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide in a career that expands twenty years, and published in magazines such as Artforum and Miami Contemporary Artists book by Schiffer Publishing, among others. Curated and produced: Obscura “The World Today” 10K+ NFT Photo IRL Exhibit, featuring 138 international photographers. Born in Cuba, RISD alum, reside in US.
